28th IPB

The 28th edition of the Warsaw International Poster Biennale – the oldest and one of the most significant and internationally recognised artistic events dedicated to the poster – will take place from: 24 June – 12 September 2023 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.

This year, we have invited poster designers to participate in two competitions: the Main Competition, open to graphic designers, artists and students, which is open to posters created between 2021 and 2023, and the Thematic Competition, which centres around the concept of 'home’.

Main Competition

Laureates of the Main Competition of the 28th International Poster Biennale in Warsaw:

  • GOLD MEDAL: Dasha Podoltseva from Ukraine for her poster „Harvest”.
    for a poster with a shocking, timely message from the present set in an idyllic image from the past.
  • SILVER MEDAL: Wojciech Domagalski from Poland for the poster „Cloud from Poland”.
    for an unsettling, evocative visual statement on freedom that dispenses with language to provide a space open to universal interpretation.
  • BRONZE MEDAL: Isana Wada from Japan for her poster „Pure”
    for her fresh, contemporary treatment of a poster that engages the viewer with visual language and message, yet subtly raises many questions about geopolitics.

 

Honourable mentions in the Main Competition of the 28th International Poster Biennale in Warsaw:

  • Agnieszka Ziemiszewska from Poland for her poster „Feministas Futuristicas”
    For addressing the important issue of feminism. For showing the strength and energy of women. For reflecting anger and determination well.
  • Yuting Fang from China for the poster „Nature.Life”
    for its poetic, surreal and poignant depiction of natural life forms and a reminder that the planet is home to us all.
  • Guillaume Andre from France for his poster „Back to the Trees”
    for a striking and beautifully crafted poster that invites the viewer to celebrate and discover the magic in the depths of nature.

Thematic Competition

Laureates of the Thematic Competition of the 28th International Poster Biennale in Warsaw:

  • GOLD MEDAL: Maria Mencwel from Poland for her poster 'Home?
    for a seemingly cheerful image accompanied by deeply shocking statistics of migrant and refugee deaths at sea during the current crisis. For a poster that requires the viewer to reflect.
  • SILVER MEDAL: Małgorzata Gurowska from Poland for the poster „ZOEpolis”
    for its depiction of a micro-ecosystem that evokes the complexity that the coexistence of organisms entails.
  • BRONZE MEDAL: Nikodem Pręgowski, Poland, for the poster „Dom”.
    for an emotional image that strongly communicates primal fear.

Honourable mentions in the Thematic Competition of the 28th International Poster Biennale in Warsaw:

  • Anna Naumova from Poland for her poster „Look”, for a poster that takes you out of your daily routine and shows the human tragedies of a nation caught up in war.
  • Yurko Gutsulyak from Canada for his poster „Ruin”.
    for a very effective and intelligently thought-out poster based on a play on words, critically commenting on the war in Ukraine.
  • Vladimir Tsesler from Cyprus for the poster „Belarusian Ornament”
    for a seemingly innocent image of a traditional handicraft that contains a disturbing hidden message.
