Prof. Włodzimierz Szymański was an outstanding artist, a long-standing and valued teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, an active Senator of the Academy, the Founder and Director of the Prof. Ryszard Winiarski Institute of Media Art.

He has held many group and solo exhibitions, in Poland and abroad. He has led a number of projects for the benefit of Polish contemporary art, the Academy of Fine Arts, its students and staff. In 2009, he founded the Alternative Imaging Studio at the Faculty of Media Art, which has been extremely popular with students over the past few years.

Committed, dedicated and spirited, he passed away at a time when his vision and endeavours were beginning to gain momentum and shape into viable ventures. To many he will remain an unrivalled Teacher, Mentor and Champion. He died suddenly on 23 May 2023.

‘The aim of the exhibition is to present Prof. Szymanski’s comprehensive activities and to show the areas of his increased artistic, teaching, scientific and research activities. Thus, alongside his own works (paintings, multimedia or intermedia), we will show flagship student projects realised under his supervision.

We will present a selection of projects that the Professor led or initiated as the founder and director of the Professor Ryszard Winiarski Institute of Media Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw,’ say the curators of the exhibition: Klaudia Kiercz-Dlugołęcka and Dorota Kozieradzka.
